Round One, Week Six

A belated happy birthday to co-commissioner Keith Anderson, who celebrated the big 3-1 this past week in warm, sunny, Las Vegas. His wife's understanding is that he had a lovely dinner with the USA basketball staff, complete with dessert, followed by a brief stint at craps. As long as said wife is not unknowlingly in a polygamous relationship with a dancer, she is not going to ask questions.

But as long as we are in the gambling spirit, let's get on to this weeks games!

Anderson's Choice - Boys
#7 Kade vs #10 Carter
Winner: Carter

Both of these names fall into that "somewhat preppy" category, making it a slightly difficult decision. Sometimes it's actually easier to compare apples to oranges! We can't completely explain the rationale for choosing Carter...Kade seemed "too short," but we do like other one-syllable names. Perhaps it's just the way it flows, or, doesn't flow as the case may be. Carter proves to be a nice little upset in Round One.

Other's Choice - Boys
#3 Noah vs #14 Brayden
Winner: Noah

Noah means "peaceful"...so maybe this is just Tracy's way of channeling some calm energy to this baby (because she is already outnumbered by high-energy boys). Last bracket, we went through an ousting of all the "aden" names at one point, in part because we had a lot of them, and in part because they don't really work well with Anderson. Plus, it's going to rain a lot in CT this week...so it's really only fair that we get moving on that ark.

Anderson's Choice - Girls
#8 Layla vs. #9 Amelia
Winner: Layla

Eight-Nine matchups, by definition, are tough...while they are middle of the pack names, they are also really close, and therefore difficult to choose between. Amelia is Tracy's grandmother's name, so it has some sentimental value, but it doesn't sound great with Anderson. We went with the more modern "Layla" for this weeks matchup. And back to channeling those good vibes, maybe it will ease our worried minds. Yeah, that cheesed up the post a bit, it's ok.

Other's Choice - Girls
#1 Charlotte vs. #16 Heather
Winner: CharlotteHeather was in the top 10 girls names in the 70's and 80's, meaning it falls in that post-cool but pre-comeback-cool range. Charlotte, on the other hand, was very popular in the 40's, then took a nosedive until recently. So we are going with the 40's over the 80's (sorry legwarmer-lovers), and Charlotte moves on to Round Two!
